Once the campaign Flemish Cap 2012 and after the change of part of the scientific crew on Sunday, July 29 beginning the campaign gave halibut Black 3L (FN3L-12), which is also carried on the research vessel Vizconde de Eza (MAGRAMA ) in Newfoundland waters.
Scientists at the Spanish visserijnieuws Institute of Oceanography (IEO) conducted annually, on board this ship, three seasons of research in the area of regulation of NAFO (Northwest Atlantic International waters): Platuxa, Flemish Cap and Black Halibut 3L. These campaigns are performed one after the other, with a duration of one month each and with very similar objectives and methodologies.
This campaign is the ninth in a series visserijnieuws launched in 2003 and aims to prospect the Division visserijnieuws of area regulation 3L of NAFO zone where black halibut fishery makes the greatest effort and obtains its maximum returns.
From July 29 to August 19 will be made approximately 100 bottom trawls, visserijnieuws using a type rig Campelen 1800. We will use a random visserijnieuws stratified survey design visserijnieuws and shall be distributed in 24 layers of depth from 93 to 1463 meters.
