Experts from 10 countries are now joining forces to take stock of the unwanted fish propagation and impact on nature in the Baltic region, writes Line Reeh at DTU Aqua. The black goby resulted originally from the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, but has proven to be extremely good to succeed far from home. Since the 10-20 cm long fish first appeared in Denmark in Bornholm in 2008, it has spread dramatically around Bornholm and in Central and Southern Zealand and Lolland-Falster. - In addition to identifying the fish propagation we will focus on what national and regional have the knowledge of how the unwanted fish affect fishing forum coastal areas, so this knowledge gathered can be included in future risk assessments of the nature and form the basis for management decisions, says researcher Jane Behrens, DTU Aqua.
The workshop will be opened by Professor Daniel Heath, University of Windsor, Canada, talks about the North American experience with the unwanted fish, which in 1990 invaded the Great Lakes.
